Kerry Mountcastle has dominated the latest swing of Ramada NZPGA Pro-Am’s and catapulted himself to the top of the PGA of New Zealand’s Order of Merit.

The Masterton-based professional has either won or finished as the joint winner in the last three of four events on the circuit, rising two places in the season-long money list.

To start his impressive run of form, he carded a remarkable 10-under 61 at the Boulcotts Farm Heritage Pro-Am to win by four over Jake Meenhorst. His blockbuster round included ten birdies and not a single dropped-shot to comfortably beat a condensed leaderboard behind him.

The following day, he finished tied at the top of the Parehua Resort Paraparaumu Beach Pro-Am with local amateur Alec Prentice after carding a six-under 65 that included seven birdies, an eagle, a bogey, and a double. In two days’ work, Mountcastle was an incredible 16-under-par around two of Wellington’s best golf courses.

Matching him with a 65 of his own was rising Wellington amateur Alec Prentice. The Paraparaumu Beach member had a much cleaner-looking scorecard to Mountcastle, recording eight birdies with just the lone bogey.

Mountcastle’s third victory came at the rain-affected Expol Waihi Pro-Am, where he finished as a joint-winner alongside Tyler Hodge with a four-under 68.

32 players ventured out to a green Waihi Golf Club that was about to be hit with plenty more rain than it had already seen, resulting in round two being abandoned.

The only event he didn’t win was the Baylys Waitemata Pro-Am, missing out on a fourth victory by a shot. Mountcastle fired a one-under 69 around an exceptional Waitemata Golf Club that was presented immaculately given it was under water the week prior due to the Auckland flooding.

The Baylys Waitemata Pro-Am was won Jake Meenhorst, the only player to coming remotely close to Mountcastle’s level of golf. The North Harbour professional fired a three-under 68 to take out the event, finishing an impressive stretch of golf of his own that included a win, second, a tie for fourth, and a tie for eighth.

The Ramada PGA Pro-Am Series heads to Palmerston North for the Brian Green Property Group NZ Super 6’s on the Jennian Homes Charles Tour, which begins this Thursday, 16 February.
