Alistair and his wife Carol immigrated to New Zealand in the late 60’s, to take up a role as head professional at the Otago Golf Club in Dunedin.

He later returned to Scotland and took ownership of a caravan/camping ground for a number of years; after selling up he returned to New Zealand and retired, living near Rangiora in Canterbury, joining the Pegasus Golf Club.

Life Member and past President Dennis J Clark, in expressing extreme sorrow at his passing, remembers Alistair as “one of life’s great characters”, adding that “he would have still been searching for length off the tee up until the last round he played!”.

He added that “one of my fondest memories of him was when he played the Forest Products tournament at Tokoroa which Tony Jacklin won. He was a pale Scotsman who had never been in the New Zealand sun, and by the end of the week he looked like a lobster!!"

We pass on our sincere condolences to Alistair’s family at this sad time.
