Geary won the first Jennian Homes Charles Tour event of the year, the Renaissance Brewing New Zealand Stroke Play, and has since added the Millbrook Classic and two Pro-Am victories to his trophy cabinet. He also finished in second and a tie for fourth in the other two tournaments he’s played since the Stroke Play a little under a month ago.

The Autex Muriwai Open is a tournament that has slipped out of his grasp a couple of times before and is a trophy he desperately wants his hands on.

“It’d mean a lot to get this event under the belt. I’m obviously sponsored by Autex as well and this is their home event, so it’d also mean a lot to win it for them too.

“I’ve had a couple of disasters in the past but for the most part, I’ve played really well around here other than a couple of rounds. It’ll be cool to get this one across the line, it’s a tournament I really want to win,” Geary says.

The Autex Muriwai Open is a stop on the Jennian Homes Charles Tour that many look forward to.

Muriwai Golf Club General Manager Andrew Jackson says there is always an awesome feeling amongst the players, tournament staff, volunteers, and the fans that come and support every year, and he expects the 13th edition of the tournament in 2022 to be no different.

“It doesn’t seem that long since last year’s event. This my favourite week of the year and I’m really looking forward to watching some great golf.

“The event is special because we’re a team, we’re Team Muriwai.

“The members love it; they love to see the country’s best golfers here and they all get right behind it. We usually get about 40 to 50 volunteers plus the staff who all know what their roles are and what they’re up to for the week,” he says.

Muriwai Golf Club has once again been presented in immaculate condition, and Jackson urges people to come and watch some of the country’s premier golfers on one of its best golf courses.

“The course is phenomenal. It’s been consistently like this for at least 12-months; we’re getting rave reviews on google and a lot of visitors who come through all say that they love it.

“The gates are open free of charge for anyone to come and watch. Everybody is welcome, we encourage kids to come along as it’s a great event.

“Last year we had Ryan Fox, Daniel Hillier, and Jimmy Hydes in the final group who have all since won events in Europe, which is what the Jennian Homes Charles Tour is all about.”

Round one gets underway tomorrow morning at 7 o’clock.
