Tauranga Professional Josh Geary was the day’s big mover in Round 2 of the Briscoes Wairakei Invitational Pro-Am, with a fine 6 under 66 to move within one of Ryan Fox, who sit at -10 for the tournament.

Geary’s round included 7 birdies and a single bogey on the Par 3 5th while Fox had an up and down day, mixing 7 birdies with 5 bogeys and a double on the Par 3 10th.

The European Tour pair have a gap back to Mark Hutson, who followed his opening 69 with a 2 under 70 to sit 5 under, with Mark Brown two shots further back following a well crafted 4 under 68.

The 3rd Round was underway at 10:30am Thursday.

In addition to the 2nd Round, the Top 8 Professionals made the Gemscott Shootout. Jerry Ren and Dongwoo Kang made par’s on the 1st Hole to be eliminated, before Gareth Paddison and Josh Geary were knocked out on the 2nd (the 8th Hole).

Playing the 9th, Kieran Muir made a bogey to fall out of the event, while Hutson birdied to ensure his spot in the final pair. Fox and Brown were forced to Chip Off for the other final birth, with Brown playing a lovely bunker shot to edge Fox.

The final pair, Hutson and Brown, could not be settled, making Par’s, so the moved to a Chip Off, where Brown again prevailed to take take out the Shootout and the bonus cash prize.
