After a dominant performance on Sunday at last week’s The Clubroom Gulf Harbour Open, Ryan Fox is looking to carry his form over to this week’s Jennian Homes Charles Tour event, the Autex Muriwai Open.

It’s a rare sight having the 186th ranked golfer in the world play in our own backyard, and this week he returns to a golf course where he’s already had success. Fox won the Autex Muriwai Open in 2014 and is looking to replicate his good form to get his name on the trophy again.

He admits it might be hard to mirror the same form as last week, but says his game is in good shape for another good week on Auckland’s west coast.

“Everyone’s expectations of me must be quite high,” Fox laughs.

“I’m just going to try and do the same thing as last week; you never know what could happen around Muriwai. If it blows hard it can be an absolute brute of a golf course out there so I hope we get some good weather which means there is some scoring to be done.

“I’m really looking forward to it. My game is in really good shape so we’ll see what happens,” he says.

Muriwai Golf Links General Manager says with Fox playing the tournament this week, there is an elevated level of interest in the event.

The Autex Muriwai Open has also been made the final stage of the PGA Australia’s Qualifying School and together with Fox’s entry, there is a level of intrigue the tournament hasn’t had before.

“I’ve been asking Ryan to play here for about four years now but due to his European Tour commitments he’s been unable to.

“Following on from his performance at Gulf Harbour there has been plenty of interest in the event. He has the just to do the double; the east coast, west coast swing and we’re expecting a lot more people than normal out watching the event.

“When it was announced that Muriwai was also announced as the course that would be the final stage of the PGA Australia’s Q-School we were stoked. Being used for a tour event is great for the event and the golf course,” he says.

Nine golfers have entered the final stage of the PGA Australia with two people gaining their cards for 2021.
