Professionals Josh Geary and Dongwoo Kang are leading the chase of Hawkes Bay Amateur Mako Thompson, who followed up his 1st Round 64 with a fine 66 to sit at 12 under Par. European and Challenge Tour Player Geary followed up his opening round 70 with the low round of the day, a 7 under 64, while former Japanese Tour Player Kang continue his fine 2021 form with two solid rounds of 67, to leave the pair 4 shots back heading into moving day. Auckland Professional Tae Koh sits one shot further back after his rounds of 68 and 67. 27 PGA Professionals have made the 3rd round cut. Manawatu Golf Club has been presented in superb condition and the weather has been hot and humid, with high temperatures forecast over the weekend.
The Top 60 and ties move forward to a 3rd Round of strokeplay where they will be vying for a coveted Top 24 spot for Sunday’s Special 6’s Gross Matchplay. The Top 8 following tomorrows 54 Hole cut will have a bye for Round 1 on Sunday.
