James Anstiss and David Smail are tied for the lead at the halfway point of the Jennian Homes Harewood Open. The event is sponsored by Lamb & Hayward and Resene Rockcote. The 2001 NZ Open Champion Smail found form on a chilly Christchurch day and his round of 66 paired with 73 yesterday placed him at the top of the leaderboard with the 23 year old rookie Anstiss. James turned professional this year after an impressive amateur record while at Southeastern Louisiana University. They are one stroke ahead of  Russley amateur Reid Hilton and five players, including overnight co-leader Mark Brown are a further stroke back on 3 unde par 141.
