The NZPGA Pro Am series returned to the far north for the Barfoot & Thompson Waitangi Pro Am, the Platinum Homes Pro Am at Sherwood Park and the Fruehauf Trailers Omaha Beach Pro Am.

The Northern Swing of Pro Ams features two the major two-dayers back to back, the Platinum Homes Pro Am and Fruehauf Trailers Omaha Beach Pro Am and has been a mainstay of the circuit since 2014 when the Waitangi Pro Am returned to the circuit.

Starting in Waitangi on Tuesday 19th, the single round event was played in pristine conditions at the seaside course where the wind picked up later in the day. The select field of 24 professionals saw Jake Meenhorst come out on top, defending the title he shared in 2023 with Charlie Smail, this time coming out on top by himself. His 5 Under 67 to win by one over Blenheim professional, Chas Craig included 7 birdies and 2 bogeys. Meanwhile Chas who is still looking for his first Pro Am win had a cleaner scorecard, with only one disappointing bogey on the Driveable Par 4 12th, an eagle on the Par 5 5th, and three birdies. Host Professional and Hero at the NZPGA Championship, Pieter Zwart shared third place with Jerry Song and Richard Lee.

The two majors of the Northern Swing began the next day as the professionals went to Whangarei for the Platinum Homes Pro Am on the 20th & 21st over 36 Holes for $25,000. Great conditions meet the professionals again where Mason Lee was on top with rounds of 67 and 65 to win by two over in-form Kieran Muir. Mason made up from his 2nd place at the NZPGA Championship and his 2nd Pro Am win of 2023. This win took him atop the Pro Am Series Order of Merit where consistency has been key where he has also come 2nd in the Boulcott’s Farm and Martinborough Pro Ams. Mason’s two rounds included 13 Birdies and 3 Bogeys for his -10 total.

Finally, the swing finished off at the $40,000 Fruehauf Trailers Omaha Beach Pro Am – one of the country's longest standing events and won previously by Daniel Hiller in 2023 – this had been the one 36 Hole Pro Am where stalwart Dongwoo Kang had yet to take out after previously winning the Cello Invitational, Platinum Homes Pro Am and Hills Invitational. Rounds of 64 and 68 could not separate him and Nick Coxon, who has managed to win his 2nd Pro Am event of the year as well and taking him to 2nd on the Pro Am series Order of Merit behind Mason. The professionals were presented with rainy conditions both Rounds 1 & 2, however the scoring was still electric at the seaside course where the low round of the event and the whole series belonged to Jared Edwards on the 2nd Round after firing an impressive bogey free 63 to make up ground from his first round 72. Runners up after 36 Holes were Charlie Smail and Pieter Zwart who were both -6 total to be two back from Dongwoo Kang and Nick Coxon.

The Pro Am series now takes a break until the Cello Invitational Qualifier in May. The Professionals return to the Charles Tour after easter for the NZ Super 6s in Manawatu on the 4th – 7th of April and the Muriwai Open on the 11th – 14th of April.
