Akarana Golf Club is seeking an exceptional Golf Shop Assistant – Trainee PGA to join our team. Known as the friendly Club, Akarana offers members a warm and inviting golfing experience.


Reporting to the Golf Operations Manager, the successful candidate will display a passion for assisting and exceeding customer expectations, be highly motivated and willing to contribute to the success of the overall Team effort.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with day-to-day management of the Golf Shop and Driving Range.
  • Deliver a professional and exceptional member service experience.
  • Assisting with Tee sheet management, organising events, member and guest competitions.
  • Assist with Stock management - sales, processing, storing, and displaying of stock and Merchandising.
  • Grow junior golf through delivery of the Junior Golf Programme as stipulated by our coaching contractor (Marcus Wheelhouse Coaching).
  • Assist with club repairs.


Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a customer facing role, preferably in golf.
  • Superior communication skills.
  • Skills and experience with computerized Vend POS, Dot Golf is desirable.
  • Experience with computers Microsoft word, office and Excel.
  • Ability to cope well in busy situations and multitask.


The progression in this role, subject the relevant experience, will also allow one-on-one coaching opportunities, group coaching opportunities through Wheelhouse Golf Coaching as well as management pathway opportunities.

Golf Operations Manager

Whangaparaoa Golf Club is looking for a full-time Operations Manager to help keep our thriving club moving forward.

You’d manage all aspects of our club, including management of the Greenkeeping staff, the Bar, and all golf-related activities involving our 500+ members, green fee players, and cart hire. You’d also be responsible for ensuring that all assets held by the Club are properly maintained, and that the Club’s high standards are maintained at all times.

Applicants should have a wide range of commercial abilities including basic financial management, budgeting, report writing and sound people management skills. Experience in Xero and a Bar Manager’s licence would be an advantage. Ideally you’ve had some experience within the game of golf, but we can consider applicants with relevant experience in other recreational pursuits.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Golf Operations Manager, along with their team, is responsible for the effective management and promotion of all Akarana golf services. With accountability for all daily golf operations, this is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual, with a passion for golf to make a significant contribution.


This role is a key customer facing position and to be successful you will be confident leading events and promoting the Club both internally to members and externally to the wider golfing community.


Key duties and responsibilities


  • Managing the overall golf operations of the Club and ensuring members, sponsors and guests receive a superior golfing experience.
  • Ensuring the effective management of all tee bookings and the overall operation of the driving range and practice facilities.
  • Leading the golf operations team, including ensuring the effective running of the pro shop and liaison with Club partners in respect of all golf matters.
  • Promoting and delivering all golf programmes at the Club with a particular focus on junior golf development.
  • Building, maintaining and fostering productive relationships with sponsors and corporates undertaking marketing and promotions activities for the club.
  • Managing the golf operations budget to maximise revenue generation through identifying and implementing opportunities for improved products and services.
  • Being a key part of the AGC team, supporting the General Manager and other senior staff as and when required.


Skills and Experience


  • Proven success and experience in a customer facing role, preferably in golf, with demonstrated competence in managing and running competitions and events.
  • Prior experience successfully leading a team is strongly desirable, including experience scheduling hours, staff training and monitoring and addressing performance.
  • Demonstrated superior communication skills, including across all social media platforms.
  • Skills and experience with computerized Vend POS, Dot Golf and Xero is desirable.
