Terrace Downs offers a par 72, 18-hole championship golf course, rated as one of the top courses and golfing destinations in New Zealand. Based at the foothills of the Southern Alps, there are very few scenic alpine courses like it.

The course was designed by Sid Pudicombe and Associates in 1993 and officially opened in December 2001. It offers a unique mixture of Parklands and Links style with the underlying philosophy of the course development assuring its integration into the natural environment and the respect and enjoyment of all who play on it. The views of the Rakaia Gorge and mountain vistas remain a constant challenge for players to keep their eye on the ball!

At par 72, the course is challenging. However, a choice of four tees on each hole ensures the course caters for a range of golfing abilities. The 6,440-metre long course incorporates 11 lakes and 70 bunkers, providing plenty of obstacles for even the most experienced player.

The signature hole for Terrace Downs is the 16th. The short par three plays 100 metres off the regular tees and can often be quite treacherous. The fairway clings to the side of the Rakaia Gorge and includes spectacular views of the Rakaia River and the towering Mt Hutt.

Waimairi Beach Golf course was opened in 1932, with A.R.Blank (Ray) having played a large part in the development and design. The land on which the course was laid out was administered by the Selwyn Plantation Board as an unsuccessful forestry reserve.

Members of the Waimairi Surf Club decided that having a course near the beach would be a good idea, and got together with Ray Blank and others to bring the idea to fruition. During the depression relief workers assisted with turfing greens and defining fairways. Originally nine holes were built and played, the Clubhouse being placed where the 5th green is now. It was not long before the full 18 holes were in play and successful tree planting had taken place, leading to the pleasant links type tree lined course that Waimairi Beach is today.

If Cape Kidnappers were a book, it would be described as an epic. The Cape figures in Maori mythology, and its name immortalises the first visit by Captain Cook in 1770. From the long driveway up the hill to the commanding views of Hawke's Bay, everything here is at a grand scale, and it was a challenge to build a golf course to match. The Cape is not true links terrain; instead, the land tilts toward the sea as a series of ridges jutting out toward the edge of the cliffs. Yet, the play is seaside golf at its finest. The surface is firm and fast, and the conditions can be windy, so the player who can control his trajectory will be master of the course. You'll hit heroic shots over the tops of the tea trees, and play cautiously along the edges of deep ravines. Every hole has a view of the Bay, and at the sixth and fifteenth holes it's possible to pull your approach off the very end of the earth, though it will take nearly ten seconds of hang time for your ball to reach the ocean, 500 feet below. Enjoy your game, and enjoy the setting. You will never play golf somewhere like this again.

Considered by a growing number of serious golfers as a hidden   treasure in New Zealand, the 18 hole, par 70 Omaha Beach Golf Club is less   than an hour's drive from central Auckland or an hour and a half from Auckland International Airport, but a world away from the frenetic pace   of the city.

It's a links style resort course, crafted by its designers to   make the most of its stunning seaside location and the gentle,   undulating roll of the rural landscape into which it neatly sits.

Bordered by the sea on one side and a natural estuary on the   other, it is a course that offers some unique and pleasant surprises as you   travel around it; a Totara Grove adjacent to one hole, a stand of Kaihikatea   providing shelter to a boardwalk that delivers you to another, and with the   estuary itself providing a new landscape, and challenge, as you progress   around the course.

Significant work has gone into Omaha over the last five years to   deliver a near all seasons course that is now gaining growing recognition for   its stunning beauty as much as its challenges for all levels of golfer.

Omaha Beach Golf Club has a fully stocked Pro Shop, Neil's Golf  Centre, and also has tennis courts and a bowling green. This is your one stop   golfing / holiday destination!

Looking forward to seeing you all at Omaha Beach!

Chisholm Park Golf Club is an 18-hole Championship links style course. Enjoy the playability and character of the holes, first-class conditioning, and amazing scenery over the Pacific Ocean, local beaches and the local region. Only 8-minutes from the heart of the city (The Octagon) local and international golfers enjoy playing the links. The Chisholm Park Golf Club was developed on reserve land during the 1930's depression years. The original name was Ocean Beach Links.

From these humble beginnings it has become one of the best links courses in the country. Former European and Australasian Tour Veteran Greg Turner thinks Chisholm Park is pretty special. He said, "It has good turf and it's on good golfing land. It offers classic links golf. I think, that after Paraparaumu Beach, it's the second best links course in New Zealand".

The links hosted an Australasian PGA Development Tour Tournament in March 2001 won by David Podlich and March 2002 won by Gareth Padison. In April 2003, Chisholm Park hosted the New Zealand Amateur Championship won by Australian James Nitties. In March 2004 The Australasian PGA Tour (Von Nida Tour Event) - Dunedin Scenic Circle Hotels Classic returned to Chisholm Park with local golf Professional Mahal Pearce winning the tournament.

Chisholm Park is not long but is a true test of golf - few players get the better of it. All the professional players who have played the course enjoyed the unique character of the course and rated it very highly.

Originally an inland links style course, by the late 1960's the course with the help of bunkering and replanting has developed into its rich park-like condition of today. A picturesque course, with some holes bordering the mighty Waikato River, gives the Hamilton Golf Course a very tranquil and relaxed setting. None more so than the challenging par 5 fourth hole. Regarded as the signature hole, the short dogleg gives the player many options on the drive and second shot, but the river is always lurking to the right to catch the wayward shot. Royal Wellington Golf Club, founded in 1895, has one of New Zealand's most beautiful and historic golf courses.  Sited at Heretaunga, just north of Wellington, the course is one of the best tests of golf in New Zealand. It has been a regular venue for New Zealand Open Championships, and men's and women's national amateur championships. The club, which also has a nine-hole "inner" course, has a strong and active membership.  Visitors are very welcome, by arrangement through the office, or with a club member.
