WOW! What a thrilling final round from Jordan Spieth. Spieth, who turns 24 next week showed unbelievable courage to come back from what looked like an irretrievable situation to score birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie from the 14th through 17th to clinch his third Major title. His final round 69
-12 total was good enough to win by three strokes from Matt Kuchar on 9 under and in third place on 6 under par was the promising young Chinese player Li Hautong.
Ryan Fox and Michael Hendry both missed the 36 hole cut.
PGA TOUR
Barbasol Championship
Steve Alker scored 66,67,70,71 for a 10 under par total and finished in a tie for 42nd place in last week’s event. The winner was Grayson Murray ( -21 )won by a stroke from Chad Collins and a further stroke back was Brian Gay.
LPGA TOUR
Marathon Classic
The depth of Korean born players on the LPGA Tour is amazing and they are currently dominating the Tour. In Kyung Kim with a total of twenty one under par won the Marathon Classic by four from US player Lexi Thompson.
Lydia Ko started slowly with a 73 but rounds of 68, 65 and a final round 69 gave her a T 20 placing
Symetra Tour
Liv Cheng missed the 36 hole cut this week.
ALPS TOUR
This week’s event was played at the Lignano Golf Club near Venice and the winner was Markus Habeler from Austria. Four players finished tied on 16 under par and Habeler came through for his maiden victory. Kiwi Shaun Jones finished on four under par and tied for 49th. Shaun will now have a five week break to practice for the remaining Alps Tour season events and to prepare for the European Tour Qualifying School.
