Holden Scramble - off and running again for 2003Monday, Apr 28, 2003

With the Centennial Golf Course in great condition, and the weather being absolutely perfect, the Holden Scramble was off to a flying start on Saturday the 12th April.A huge thanks to the Taupo Golf Club, who converted their scheduled club day into a dedicated Holden Scramble for its members, and visiting teams from as far away as the Hawkes Bay, Waimarino and Rotorua joined in the fun. Thirty four teams lined up for a shot gun start, collected their tee packs from the local Taupo Holden Dealer, and set off in their attempt to qualify for the regional final stage. It turned into a bit of a runaway victory for the team of Alan Richardson, John Simon and Kipa Simon, finishing with five straight birdies and returning a gross score of 12 under par 60, netting out at 54 and 3/6th. Second place was the team of Bruce Klue, Vic Stone and Christina Patterson on 65 nett 56 and 3/6th. Third place was Jonathan Huntley, Harry Shepherd and Helen Clelland on 66 nett 57. The first two teams now wait until the 27th October when they will contest the Regional Final. At this event Host PGA Professional John Sheargold will join the the first team, and he will be arranging for another PGA Professional to accompany the Second team. As predicted, women featured strongly in two of the three leading teams. < Back
