Brown leads Kiwis in Singapore9 Mar 2007
|
Mark Brown | Wellington's Mark Brown has continued his recent run of good form to be the leading Kiwi in the field of the Clariden Leu Singapore Masters overnight.
Playing on the Classic Golf Course, regarded as the easier of the two golf courses used for the event, Brown shot a 6-under 66 to lie only two shots from the lead in a tie for 6th place in this European and Asian co-sanctioned event that carries a total prize purse of USD$1,100,000. Australian Marcus Fraser and China's Wen-chong Liang hold the lead with rounds of 8-under 64's.
Brown, who is playing in his fourth event of the Asian Tour this year, carries his form from the recent HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship where he finished in 6th place and the Indonesian Open where he finished in a tie for 23rd.
Of the other Kiwis in the Singapore field, Richard Lee shot the equal low score of 4-under 68 on the tougher Masters Golf Course to lie in a tie for 15th place. Lee is also continuing a run of form following his 14th placing in the lucrative Johnnie Walker Classic last week. Mahal Pearce, also playing the Masters course, completed a 2-under 70 to lie in joint 58th place.
The field turns around today and plays the alternate course from that played in the first round.
